Our Impact

Committed to better business.

At SustainIQ, we're on a mission to change your world, for good. For our business, success is more than making profit - it's about our commitment to doing better business, and making the world a better place as we grow. Since 2017, we've started working with new partners, identifying companies with similar visions for what tomorrow looks like, and working alongside them to achieve that vision together.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

The Cause

UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 – Affordable & Clean Energy

Most of us in the developed world take access to energy for granted. Light bulbs turn on at the flick of a switch; we have instant and constant access to power for our many devices and we heat and cool our homes without a second thought.

It's a very different story for the 789 million people globally who still can't access electricity. Many rely on kerosene lamps that release harmful emissions, provide a poor source of light, are expensive to run and are extremely hazardous.

Energy poverty is also a climate issue and therefore solar lights offer a real and sustainable solution to help combat energy poverty now.

Solar Aid partnership

With every new subscription to SustainIQ, we provide solar lighting that helps 334 people, saves families £9,875, gives children 62.4k hours of extra study time, decreases CO2 emissions by 65.8 tonnes and allows 162 people in a developing country to live healthier lives. We do this in partnership with Solar Aid.

Solar lighting is safe, clean and affordable and will open up opportunities that most of us take for granted, but of which those kept in the dark can only dream. It will allow families to earn, learn and feel safe after dark; provide opportunities for income, a livelihood and independence - all using the power of the sun.

Working with our customers, we can provide a family with their first step on the energy ladder and help contribute to SDG 7.

Meet the Co-Founders

SustainIQ was formed by its two co-founders Liam McEvoy and Maria Diffley. The pair met at an industry award ceremony in 2017 and got chatting about the many challenges sustainability presents to businesses who are looking to operate in a more sustainable and responsible manner. Many more conversations followed, and they soon realised there was a real need to create a solution that would help organisations use their sustainability performance to drive business improvement. And so, SustainIQ was born. An online platform that allows organisations to harness their business intelligence that previously was not being considered in the strategic decision-making process.

Both Maria and Liam have strong backgrounds working in sustainability. Maria has worked in both the public and voluntary sectors and holds an MSc in Sustainability & CSR. Liam has worked with construction and manufacturing clients for over 15 years developing sustainability strategies for their corporate clients. He holds a BSc (Hons) Environmental Management.

Meet The Core Team

Liam McEvoy

Co-Founder

Liam has worked in the field of sustainability for nearly twenty years across the public, private and voluntary sectors. He has a strong background in management systems and compliance and has developed and implemented sustainability strategies for a number of leading UK construction firms. Liam holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management.

He believes that SustainIQ has a mission to help organisations become more data-driven by uncovering the untapped intelligence that sits waiting to be found within any company. The software helps to harness business intelligence from sustainability performance to inform business strategy, helping companies become more transparent and encouraging better business.

Maria Diffley

Co-Founder

Having worked in the sustainability space for well over a decade, both Maria and her business partner Liam recognised the need for a solution which helped companies to navigate the complexities involved in measuring, monitoring and reporting on their Sustainability and ESG investments. In response, they created an agile, integrated, real-time reporting tool which calculates a company's impacts on the environment, local communities and their people, through their products and supply chain. This data provides organisations with business intelligence that wasn’t previously being considered in strategic decision-making.

Prior to the establishment of SustainIQ, Maria worked with Business in the Community, providing support and advice on CR to the private, public and voluntary sectors. She also holds an MSc in Sustainability and CSR.

She is passionate about harnessing the power of business to positively impact the world and has advocated for long-term partnerships between business and community development organisations since her teens. She has helped with the capacity-building of many charitable and social enterprise organisations both locally in Northern Ireland and in the Developing World.

Our Partners

Construction Employers Federation (CEF)

https://www.cefni.co.uk/

The Construction Employers Federation (CEF) is the sole certified representative body for the construction industry in Northern Ireland. Representing around 70% of construction in NI, 800 businesses and over 30,000 directly employed staff, CEF is the voice of the NI Industry on the UK Construction Leadership Council, BuildUK and the NI Procurement Board.

Given how many of SustainIQ's clients are in the construction sector, a commercial partnership with the CEF makes sense for both parties. Members of the CEF can access a 10% discount on their first year subscription to SustainIQ.

SolarAid

https://solar-aid.org/

SolarAid is our charity partner. An international charity founded in 2006 to combat poverty and climate change, SolarAid uses its social enterprise, SunnyMoney, to provide access to solar lights in Malawi and Zambia to help catalyse solar markets with renewable light.

With every new subscription to SustainIQ, we make a donation to SolarAid that provides solar lighting that helps 334 people, saves families £9,875, gives children 62.4k hours of extra study time, decreases CO2 emissions by 65.8 tonnes and allows 162 people in a developing country to live healthier lives.

We like to think that just as SolarAid shines a light for those that need their support, we at SuustainIQ help to shine a light on the good work they are doing by illuminating the data so they can better see their impact.

Working in partnership with SolarAid and with our customers, we can provide a family with their first step on the energy ladder and help contribute to SDG 7.
